| Serious games are a combination of entertainment games and educational content. Serious games are generally games used for training, advertising, simulation, or education. In addition to the practical usage of the game, serious games need to adhere to the same marketability standard as general entertainment games; meaning they must have elements of entertainment such as competitiveness, visually appealing, and distinct appeal to the target audience. Common interfaces and features that would often be found in both serious games and entertainment games are gameplay, story, character, audio and world. The game interfaces explored for Mall Crawl will be score, character (character creation), start screen. In simulation games the specific genre is often difficult to simulate. Mall Crawl is a game based on economic decision, therefore the graphic simulations will be somewhat limited to sign posting and textual instructions; examples are employment applications, credit card signs, cash registers, and financial calculators. The entertainment interfaces are going to be a combination of genre specific interfaces found in both adventure games and role-playing games. An example of these are the ability to define and select specific colors for game items, avatar construction, point and click navigations, and inventory indicators. |
